Hall of the Makers
The Hall of the Makers is a pyramid-shaped temple in the City of the Dead in Mulhorand. According to legend, it was built in the earliest days of the empire, as a repository of the knowledge of the Gods, and is meant to stay forever sealed to all but the gods themselves.
Official Mulhorandi historians date the temple's construction to about -4600 DR, though leading scholars of Imaskar surmise that it is far older, dating back to the early days of that empire, and in fact serving as the centerpiece to the City which would eventually house the earliest God-Kings in repose.
The Hall of the Makers appears as a black, gloss-finished pyramid standing over 500 ft above ground level. In fact, the pyramid is only an entranceway, containing little more than elevator shaft that allows access to the full mile-tall scope of the structure. A massive power source serves as the centerpiece, with several small chambers radiating from the base of the foundation, housing the legendary knowledge of the Makers.
It is known that there are at least three such chambers, entitled:
- The Vault of Lights
- The Seats of the Keepers
- The Chamber of Prophecy
Of the latter two, nothing is known. Of the former, it is known that, at minimum, the Vault of Lights stores the collected knowledge of the entire Sea of Night: the names of all 24,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the Universe, their satellites, and every form of life to have evolved on or expired therein within the last billion years. The Vault alone holds untold gigaquads (yottabytes) of information.
Accessing the information seems to require direct mental interface, probably achievable through psychic ability. It is estimated that, even for the most advance psionic lifeforms known to exist (Illithid Elder Brains), it would require the effort of millions of years to absorb all of the information, assuming the user's mind could possibly store it all.
